1. Scope

This application note is intended for device makers and contract manufacturers (CMs) who want to register Amazon Sidewalk endpoints on the factory line. This application note does the following:

  1. Explains Registration over Wire (ROW), a mass production flow in which each Sidewalk endpoint is provisioned and registered during manufacturing over a wired connection to the line PC, either UART or SEGGER RTT through a J-Link debug probe
  2. Describes the one-time onboarding, line PC setup and per-device steps required to run ROW with the sid-mfg-tool host tool
  3. Defines the integration contract for the Factory Diagnostic Firmware and the production firmware, including the security level and factory reset behavior of factory-registered devices

This document does not attempt to discuss the details of Amazon Sidewalk features and functionality, or repeat the existing mass production flow. Those are documented in the Amazon Sidewalk Manufacturing documentation, the Amazon Sidewalk Protocol Specification and the feature-specific application notes (see Chapter 8).

ROW requires a pre-production or production device profile with factory support enabled (see Section 3.5). Prototype device profiles are not supported, and their registration requests are rejected.
