Amazon Sidewalk Gateways
Sidewalk Gateways (sometimes referred to as Sidewalk Bridges) are Amazon devices like select Echo and Ring devices that support the Sidewalk protocol. These gateways route data between the Sidewalk endpoint devices and the Sidewalk Network Server. When using a Sidewalk gateway, a small portion of the user’s internet bandwidth is shared with the community to provide connectivity to a group of Sidewalk-enabled devices.
For Ring devices, support for Sidewalk can be enabled or disabled from the Ring app (or Ring Website). And for Echo devices, support for Sidewalk can be enabled or disabled from the Alexa app. For more information, see Setting up a Sidewalk gateway
The Amazon Echo (4th Gen) device is the recommended Amazon Sidewalk gateway for development purposes. Other Echo devices like the Echo Show 10, Echo Dot (5th Gen) and Ring devices like Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 & Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro also have the capability to act as Sidewalk Gateways. The table below provides a list of Sidewalk Gateway devices and the supported communication protocols.
Regional Restrictions: The Sidewalk Network is available only in the United States of America. In order to ensure compliance with regional spectral regulations, Echo and Ring devices have been designed to disable Sidewalk gateway functionalities in all countries except the United States of America.
Additional Notes on Echo Devices: If multiple Echo devices are registered under a single Amazon account, only one of the gateways will operate as a FSK gateway, even if more than one gateway has the capability. If more than one gateway is required, then they need to be set up under separate Amazon accounts.
