Works with Amazon Sidewalk qualification process

There are two types of Works with Amazon Sidewalk qualification.

  • Works with Amazon Sidewalk end-product qualification
A design receives this qualification when it meets all requirements for the Works with Amazon Sidewalk qualification.
  • Works with Amazon Sidewalk subsystem qualification
A design receives this qualification when it only partially meets the requirements for the Works with Amazon Sidewalk qualification.

A new Sidewalk end-product can inherit some of it’s functionality from an existing design that’s qualified for use with Amazon Sidewalk.

This qualification only indicates that a design doesn’t implement the required functionality to be used as an end-product. It can also add new parts to the already existing functionality. A design that has a Works with Amazon Sidewalk end-product qualification can be reused as part of another qualification listing. For more information, see Donor qualification listing.

Steps to Amazon Sidewalk qualification

For your designs to be qualified, each design can follow a unique path, either by inheriting some or all tests from a donor certification, or by using different test facilities, or by taking advantage of different test specification waivers. The following steps outline the process for qualification:

  1. Define a product that requires capabilities of the Sidewalk network. It can be either a new product, or adding functionality to an existing product.

  2. Download the Sidewalk protocol specifications, test specifications, and the qualification requirements documents. Agree to the Sidewalk Developer Terms.

  3. Choose a Silicon provider from the list of Silicon providers. Visit the Silicon provider’s website and sign up for support.

  4. Purchase a development kit and download the Sidewalk SDK from the Silicon provider.

  5. Create a prototype product. Register the prototype as a development platform and obtain the development keys.

  6. The designer verifies that the device complies with the Sidewalk requirements. This step is done by the developer to avoid unnecessarily repeating tests at a test facility.

  7. Click here to submit a qualification request. If you don’t already have a Sidewalk360 login, click here to Signup and we will get you set up with an account.

  8. Contact the Amazon test facility to ship three test samples. Work with the test facility to pass the qualification tests for the Sidewalk functionality that the product implements.

  9. Submit the qualification fee and test evidence, and then obtain the Works with Amazon Sidewalk qualification badge.

For the first year, qualification fees will be waived.
